The Dordogne has so much to offer, it would be impossible to put everything onto just one page, so we have catagorised them into "Towns and Villages", "Attractions" and "Things to do".. We have made a small selection of each. All mentioned here are within 30 min. driving distance from Ferme de Tayac ( times can vary depending on the time of year)
National Prehistoric Museum
Built in an overhang shelter on the face of a striking cliff, the National Prehistoric Museum of Eyzies-de-Tayac is located in Dordogne, in southwestern France. The museum features unique archaeological collections chiefly discovered at the most prestigious excavation sites in the Vézère Valley, added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List owing to its many Palaeolithic remains.

Font de Gaume
Located in Les Eyzies, on the Sarlat road, Font de Gaume Cave is a showpiece of Magdalenian engravings and paintings from around 14 000 BC. The flints (chisels, scrapers, blades) and other things found in the cave during the excavations testify to a continual occupation since the Mousterian age, or the age of the Neanderthals.

La Grotte du Grand Roc
In 1922, Jean Maury, who was then an archaeologist at Laugerie Basse, noticed a small natural terrace halfway up the great cliff of the Grand Roc.He quickly climbed up to discover a small crack giving way to a slow flowing spring. Unaware of the origin of this flow, this inquiring mind rapidly imagined that a hidden cavity might reveal the source. After two years of hard work and a last mining foray on April 29, 1924, Jean Maury, his sister and daughter, entered the untouched cave.

Chateau des Milandes
It was in 1489 that François de Caumont, lord of Castelnaud, began building the Château des Milandes on a spot dominating La Dordogne. The interior consists of large, bright rooms, which are fully furnished and boast monumental fireplaces. The chateau is also famous thanks to Joséphine Baker, who owned it from 1947 to 1968. The Museum of Falconry, housed in the chateau's highest tower, displays the falconer's accessories.

Chateau de Castelnaud
The Chateau of Castelnaud, or rather Castenau "the new castle," was founded in the 12th century. The keep and curtain wall (on the inside) were built in the 13th century. The latter forms a spur on the side exposed to attack. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the Caumonts embellished the castle and upgraded its defense system to withstand artillery attacks: see the gun tower, main building, and lower enclosure.

Chateau Beynac
The site of Beynac and its castle is undoubtedly one of the finest in France. The village where Paul Eluard was born is built in stages above the water's edge, at the bottom of a 150 metre cliff, topped by an impressive fort. This eagle's nest might seem rather austere if it were not for the sun lighting up its golden walls, mirrored by the Dordogne.

The Gardens of d'Eyrignac
The Gardens of the Manoir d'Eyrignac are not only outstandingly beautiful, but also a totally original creation. They cannot be compared with any others, and are considered among the most beautiful gardens in France. They have been awarded the Grand Prix of Gardens in France by the Demeure Historique.
